About the Campus Engagement Competition
The Campus Engagement Competition is a program of Rock the Vote aimed at addressing low civic participation among young people by engaging college students and educating, exciting and mobilizing them around the importance of voting.  By connecting directly with colleges – and the students they serve – it is possible to vastly improve the awareness and involvement of young people in the voting process.  The Campus Engagement Competition program is an exciting new project designed to incentivize civic engagement among students and increase youth voting.

About the Position
The Campus Engagement Competition Program Director will lead the program and oversee its strategic development and execution.  The Director will serve as the lead ambassador for the Campus Engagement Competition to colleges and universities. The Director will be responsible for overall program management, managing staff and consultants, recruiting high level partners and managing those relationships, development of contest structure, marketing and promotional initiatives to attract campuses to participate, facilitation of communication amongst stakeholders, and support of fundraising efforts.  The Program Director should have a demonstrated interest in youth civic engagement, rigorous project management skills, strong marketing and presentation skills, and be comfortable in a fast paced work environment.

Direction and Decision Making
The Program Director will report directly to the President or staff manager of Rock the Vote. 

Position Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibility for overall project management, including management of program staff and consultants, development of work plans and timelines, tracking and forecasting budgets, and reporting systems 
  • Facilitating communication between all program stakeholders, including internal Rock the Vote staff, external consultants and partners, and program funders
  • Building and managing relationships with campus participants and other partners in higher education, civic technology, civic engagement foundation, and corporate sponsors
  • Steering the overall development of the prize competition’s structure, rules, and benchmarks
  • Providing support to fundraising efforts, including development of materials, attending meetings with potential donors, and helping to identify potential funding opportunities
  • Leading marketing and promotional efforts to attract campuses to participate, including media relations, advertising, direct outreach to relevant parties, and representing the prize competition at relevant events
  • Overseeing the development and management of an online platform for campuses to submit applications, campus plans, and communicate with one another, including the creation and maintenance of content
  • Managing the prize competition launch, including overseeing a team that will monitor solicitations, process campus applications, and respond to campus leaders’ queries
  • Managing the logistics and execution of prize competition events (launch event, finalist event, awards event)
  • Managing contracts, invoices, and payments
  • Creating and maintaining strict project documentation, archiving, and version control
  • Occasional travel to meet with stakeholders
  • Additional tasks as required. This is a flexible project where all team members handle many roles and tasks. 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of experience managing cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment, including the ability to manage up and down
  • Excellent project management skills with a strong willingness to take initiative, think ahead, problem-solve, and meet deadlines with minimal oversight 
  • Highly experienced in client/customer relations
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High level of interpersonal skill
  • Go-getter attitude
  • Strong analytical reasoning and critical thinking
  • Demonstrated interest in millennial civic engagement
  • Comfortable in flexible and unstructured work environments with high levels of ambiguity 
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 50% of the time
  • Experience in the areas of prize management, civic engagement, marketing, promotion, higher education and event planning are a plus.

Physical Requirements
This job is based in Washington D.C. 

Salary Range
Salary will be commensurate with skills and experience.   Legal work authorization required.
